After the holiday fun, we find ourselves heading back to the office. Have you
ever noticed how much waste is associated with the office? Here are a few tips
to remain environmentally friendly from
9-5.
- Keep a small recycling bin beside your desk. If you are still using a
lot of post its and paper be sure you are recycling when done. Too much
paper is just thrown in the garbage!
- Try not to print every email. By organizing your mailbox it can be
very easy and efficient to look things up as needed.
- Review your electrical situation. Things do not need to be plugged
in 24/7. Computers, printers and lights can be turned off when not in use.
Phones and faxes should be the only items that require plug in all of the
time.
- Keep scrap paper. Some people simply remember things better by
physically writing them down. Every thought or reminder does not need a
full, fresh page.
- Buy eco friendly supplies. Every office, big or small, goes
through several pens, pencils, paper clips, packs of paper, files, etc each
year. When visiting your favourite office supply store, keep your eyes
pealed for recycled content items. They are becoming more and more popular.
You can now find all of these items new and improved for the environment.
One example is Browline's EcoLogix Collection which offers stylish new
daytimers made from 100% post consumer recyled paper: 60% recyled material
cover and 90% recycled wire to hold it all together.
- If you are in need of a new computer you might want to consider a
laptop. Not only are they convenient, they use one-eighth the power of a
desktop.
